
Baltimore, Md. – The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM), a non-profit organization dedicated to building the next generation of women leaders by developing courage, confidence, and character in girls and young women in grades K-12 in Central Maryland, is pleased to announce the Board of Directors has named the organization’s new CEO, Shernette Grant, Ph.D. She will begin her role as the new GSCM CEO on Monday, April 22, 2024.
“Dr. Shernette Grant is an accomplished, strategic leader with a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, who stood out among the other CEO candidates due to her unique, applied understanding of youth and the youth experience,” said Julie Lenzer, Chair of the GSCM Board of Directors.
Dr. Grant has devoted over two decades of her career to serving youth, including within Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) in Florida. Throughout her career, she has held various roles such as principal, assistant principal, and teacher in middle and high schools. Additionally, she served as the Director of Innovative Programs where she oversaw Magnet and Innovative Programs across BCPS, the 6th largest school district in the United States. Dr. Grant is recognized for her transformative leadership style, leading her team to achieve increased designations of Magnet Schools of Distinction and Schools of Excellence.
Under her leadership, the district was twice honored by Cambridge International as the large district of the year. Most recently, Dr. Grant served as the Chief Program Officer at Junior Achievement of South Florida where she drove significant program growth through her exemplary leadership. She is also an accomplished author with a book on leadership, and an entrepreneur who has successfully established two businesses, one of which focuses on training leaders and teams to enhance cooperation, productivity, and workplace health.
“Dr. Grant has a truly unique combination of career experiences that align nicely with the values and the mission of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland,” said Kimberly Prescott, Chair of the GSCM Search Committee. “We were highly impressed with her achievements, emphasis on operational excellence, and her ongoing involvement and mentoring in girl and women-based organizations. We believe she has a unique understanding of how to empower youth and the adults supporting their development.”
Expressing her enthusiasm, Dr. Shernette Grant, stated, “I am truly honored, humbled, and excited to collaborate with Girl Scouts and their supporters in nurturing the development of young girls.” She further emphasized, “I wholeheartedly believe in the Girl Scout Promise and Law, and I am committed to embodying these values to inspire the next generation of female leaders.”
