Five Local Women Leaders Honored by Girl Scouts of Central Maryland at Annual Distinguished Women Awards Celebration

Baltimore-Girl Scouts of Central Maryland will be celebrating five local women leaders, for the impact they have in the business world and their communities, at their annual Distinguished Women Awards celebration on April 18th at the Center Club in Baltimore City. The event is a networking fundraiser that supports Girl Scouts’ programming which aims to inspire and develop the next generation of women leaders. The 2024 honorees are: Maj. General Janeen Birckhead, Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard; Dr. Julia Jasken, President, McDaniel College; Lisa Mayers, Deputy Chief, Anne Arundel County Fire Department; Tawanna Brown Smith, Vice President, J.P. Morgan Private Bank; Tammi Thomas, Chief Development & Marketing Officer, TEDCO.
Each of the honorees will share their professional insights with a high school age Girl Scout who will shadow them for a day. In addition to watching women’s leadership in action, each girl will have the opportunity to explore the career field of their honoree and discover the successes and accolades each have received over the course of their careers.
Girl Scouts of Central Maryland strives to provide girls with what they need to become leaders, now and in the future. The Distinguished Women shadow girl experience provides Girl Scouts with an opportunity to explore careers and gain a mentor. The day has proven to be invaluable to every Girl Scout who has been lucky enough to have the experience. The shadow day often increases self-confidence and offers a unique leadership opportunity. For some Girl Scouts, the experience has impacted career and college choices, in addition to gaining a lifelong mentor. Each of the shadow Girl Scouts retell their experiences at the awards ceremony, which is a highlight of the event.
