Camp and Outdoors
You live in a world of screens—smartphone! laptop! TV! tablet!—and sometimes you just want to get away from it all. We get it. That’s why you can focus your whole Girl Scout experience on getting outdoors.
You’ll develop the kind of outdoor skills it’s hard to get anywhere else. Skills like building a campfire, pitching a tent, or canoeing across a lake.
Hey, how about adding some horseback riding, rock climbing, and archery to the mix? Round things out with a ropes course, some zip lining, and maybe a week-long back-country trek, and you’ll find out how much fun it can be to unplug and explore the world around you.
From canoeing and kayaking to archery and rock climbing, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s outdoor programs are full of adventure! Join us for one of our outdoor programs, get up close and personal with nature at the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center, or embark on your great adventure at summer camp!
GSCM Annual Outdoor Programs
The Jamboree
Come join us at the annual Jamboree at the
beautiful rustic Camp Conowingo. At the Jamboree girls will DISCOVER
art, culture and outdoor activities, CONNECT with other Girl Scouts
from central Maryland and surrounding councils, and TAKE ACTION
through service projects in this action packed weekend. Bring your
own tent, or stay in the units at beautiful, rustic Camp Conowingo (as
space allows). This event is open to Brownies through Cadettes. Think
you are too old to participate in this event? Then come out and
volunteer! It will be a fun-filled weekend you will always remember.

Cardboard Boat Regatta
Have a high seas adventure! Join us for our fourth annual
Cardboard Boat Regatta! Teams will construct boats using cardboard and
duct tape. Multiple boats may be entered by a troop and leaders/adults
may participate. See if you can stay afloat longer than your rivals.
Volunteers are needed.
Come Sail Away
Girls will join the GSCM Outdoor Program Staff and the Living
Classrooms Foundation for a two-day boating adventure on the tall ship
Lady Maryland or the skipjack Sigsbee from the Baltimore Inner Harbor
to Camp Whippoorwill on the Magothy River and back to Baltimore. Cost
includes two meals on Saturday, two meals on Sunday, overnight
camping, a program patch and two days of boating.
Ready…Aim…Bulls-eye
Learn about archery! This
two-hour program activity will
concentrate on safety, shooting techniques and target practice. It
doesn’t matter whether you hit the target or not—you can have a blast!
Ready Set Go Camping Try-it
So maybe you want to go camping or maybe you just want to have
fun and pretend to go to camp. Come and find out about some of the
things you will do at camp including hikes and camp snacks. Wear your
play clothes.
Rockwall Adventures
The best view of camp is at the top of the Girl Scouts of
Central Maryland rockwall. Challenge yourself to make it to the top of
the 25 foot tower. Learn safety tips for future climbing and
participate in a program packet opportunity
Night Owl Program Activity
Come to camp and learn about
the sights and sounds of the
night. Find out about shadows and make your own glow in the Dark Sweet
Dream bracelet. This is a great activity for the new camper.
Adventure Sports
During this adventure-filled weekend girls will have a blast
making friends, canoeing or kayaking in the Magothy River, challenging
themselves on the rock wall and working together to navigate challenge
courses they created. The girl fee includes overnight camping,
activities and three meals.
Campfires
Enjoy a Girl Scout tradition: spend an evening around the
campfire with stories, skits, singing and s‘mores. Patch is included.
Big Outdoors Earth Day Extravaganza
