Dear Girl Scout Family & Friends,
As the impact of COVID-19 escalates, we want to assure you that the health and safety of our members and their families, our volunteers, and employees is a top priority. We are and have been monitoring care and safety protocols that are issued by government health departments in this evolving situation so that we are in line with those protocols and best practices. I have personally been in contact with local health officials, in consultation with our national organization from which I have received guidance, and continue to monitor the status of the virus.
We are also taking additional precautions in our office to ensure that our building and our staff are safe by: ensuring the level of cleanliness in our building is appropriate for high use areas, and we have added resources like hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial spray for employees and visitors to the council. We encourage everyone to stay calm and continue to use the hand washing and other safety practices prescribed by local health departments and the CDC. To assist you with navigating conversations with girls we have disseminated and posted this blog article (en Español) about the coronavirus from GSUSA.
We have an obligation to our community to do all that we can to
limit the spread of coronavirus. We will continue to evaluate our
protocols and communicate updates and changes with our members and
volunteers as necessary. In keeping with that, Girl Scouts of Central
Maryland is taking the following steps:
Troop/Group and Service Unit Meetings, Events, and Activities
Now through the end of March, any troop/group and service unit activities, events, or gatherings should be postponed to a future time, if possible. For any Girl Scout events and trips, be it at the service unit or troop/group level, we recommend that you reschedule them to after June 1. We will continue to evaluate that protocol with our members and volunteers as necessary.
Programs now through the end of March are postponed. We will continue to reevaluate as additional information is available. Please see the update below on rescheduled cookie programs:
- Cookie Jam and 500+ Stellar Seller Celebration: These events were scheduled for March 29, however, they have been rescheduled for June 14, 2020. The location and time are the same. Qualifying girls will receive invitations late April/early May.
- We will soon be posting a schedule of virtual program activities and options for troops and girls to participate in during this program postponement period. Check our website and Facebook page for information.
- Travel through April 15th: We recommend that all Girl Scout trips planned through April 15, 2020 be rescheduled until after June. For Girl Scout trips planned beyond that time, you should examine re-scheduling/re-routing options, as well as, cancellation deadlines. Please continue to monitor the daily updates from the CDC, U.S. Department of State and state/local authorities and be prepared to re-evaluate planned travel as travel dates approach.
- Travel to Level 3 or Level 4 Destinations: Girls traveling to any international location identified by the U.S. Department of State as a “Level 4 – Do Not Travel” is never allowed. Additionally, if any girl travel is planned to a location designated by the U.S. Department of State as “Level 3” due to COVID-19 risk, the trip should immediately be cancelled.
We apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment that may arise
as the status of programs and events are reviewed, but please know
that we are working diligently to balance health and safety concerns
with the benefits that our girls derive from programs. Please don’t
hesitate to reach out to the council via email@example.com if you have
questions or concerns.
Thank you for all that you are doing to ensure that are girls are calm, safe and healthy.
