Event Description: Wetlands are one of the Chesapeake Bay watershed's most important ecosystems. Restoring and managing this ecosystem is vital to improving the Bay's health and biodiversity.

To gain a better understanding of how people are supporting these efforts, Girl Scouts can travel to Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine with the National Aquarium for an outdoor field research experience. They'll receive "hands-on, feet wet" learning opportunities using field equipment to survey the fort's restored wetland ecosystem, which is normally inaccessible to park guests.

Scouts will discover the benefits wetlands provide wildlife and people alike and learn about the diverse ways scientists collect and use data to determine the health of the Bay.

Special Notes:

Please note that this excursion will involve walking along sandy or muddy, narrow trails and uneven terrain. This is a drop-off event held entirely outdoors so all participants must dress accordingly.

Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring a water bottle. Waders for aquatic exploration activities will be provided by the National Aquarium. All participating Scouts will receive a National Aquarium patch.

Tickets purchased through Eventbrite are specifically for the Girl Scout program and do not include general admission to the Aquarium. However, program participants are eligible for discounted Aquarium admission for the same day of the program. Inquiry through the National Aquarium.
