Baltimore - Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM) has elected eight new members to their board of directors. Each will work to move the organization’s mission of developing girls of courage, confidence and character forward and provide support for leadership programming for its K-12 girl members. “We are thrilled to have this group of individuals join our board and work with the staff and volunteers to provide meaningful opportunities and experiences for our girls,” said Jenny Trostel, GSCM’s interim CEO. The newly elected Members-at-Large are:
Karen Evans, Division Vice President at Whiting Turner. In her role Karen leads major building projects for clients that include the Kennedy Center, IBM and Johns Hopkins. She directs WT 101, a training program for Whiting Turner’s new engineers. Karen has served on numerous boards, including USGBC Maryland, Keswick Multi-Care and Executive Alliance. She is a 2013 Leadership Maryland graduate and 2015 Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Distinguished Women honoree. Karen is a long-time advocate for girls and women in leadership.
Grace Fieni, Verification and Emulation Engineer at Northrop Grumman. Grace is a Girl Scouts of Central Maryland alum who earned her Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Grace also served as a GSCM National Council Delegate and was an inaugural Girl Member-at-Large on the GSCM Board of Directors in 2016. Grace is involved with Northrop Grumman Women’s International Network, the Society of Women Engineers, and Young Catholic Professionals. She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Dr. Julia Jasken, McDaniel College’s 10th president. Dr. Jasken joined the college faculty in 2003 as an English professor. Her leadership has brought 13 new majors to the college, including a nursing program with LifeBridge Health, and the opening of the McDaniel Environmental Center and the Carroll County Scholars program. She also created the advisory council for the McDaniel Women’s Leadership Network. Named an Influential Marylander for her impact in higher education, Jasken holds degrees from the College of Saint Benedict, Northern Illinois University and Michigan Technological University.
Judith McGovern, owner and president of RealStreet, a staffing firm that supports the architecture, construction, and engineering industries. As a Certified Staffing Professional®, Judith has been recognized for her expertise and leadership in the field. She has received numerous accolades, including the SmartCEO Brava Award, Top 100 MBE’s in Baltimore, and the Unsung Hero Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Maryland Chapter.
Brooks Newman is President of Allstate Floors & Construction, Inc., and Allstate Floors of D.C. LLC. He also serves as a program leader for Landmark Worldwide, helping people achieve transformational results through personal and professional development. A longtime advocate for underserved communities in the DMV, Brooks is passionate about making a difference. He believes that empowered individuals can strengthen communities and change the world.
Martha Patrick worked for the state of Maryland for 25 years, serving in various roles, including accounting supervisor at the Maryland State Scholarship Board and at the District Courts of Baltimore City and County. She retired in 1995. A former Girl Scout troop leader and Camp Conowingo camp director, Martha is active in her community and serves as chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company.
Sarah Rosenthal is a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch/Bank of America with a rapidly growing business and a background that spans multiple industries. She has served as a volunteer with the Red Cross of Central Maryland and Cavalier Rescue USA. Sarah looks forward to using her skills and network to support the Girl Scout mission.
Christine Walsh is the owner of Redstart Creative, LLC and Alpha Graphics, Inc. At Redstart Creative, she leads a team focused on elevating nonprofit brands through storytelling, marketing strategy, and custom web design. Her clients include the Knott Foundation, Baltimore Community Lending, and the Dresher Foundation. As owner of Alpha Graphics, Christine oversees a high-performing print shop known for quality, precision, and reliable service in digital and large-format printing.
Two high school age Girl Scouts, Peyton Jones and Kashvi Metha, were also elected to the Board for a 1-year term, adding to their Girl Scout leadership experiences.
