Board of Directors endorse selection of new executive responsible for providing transformative leadership opportunities for over 10,000 girls each year
October 1, 2024, BALTIMORE, Md. - The Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM) announced today that Jenny Trostel, an accomplished Maryland executive, will become the interim Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. In this role, she leads an enthusiastic and committed team to realize a clear vision - building the next generation of women leaders by developing courage, confidence, and character in girls in grades K-12 in central Maryland.
“Jenny is a well-respected business community leader in central Maryland who can accelerate our progress as an organization. She understands that our girls’ future is our future. Her background as an entrepreneur and corporate executive coupled with her deep experience in non-profit management have prepared her to step into this role and partner with the entire Board and a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to successfully execute our mission,” said Darlene Brannigan Smith, GSCM Board Chair.
Drawing from a personal legacy of leadership, Jenny has a strong track record of successful entrepreneurial, commercial and non-profit experience. She moved to Baltimore in 1990 to open the region’s exclusive Saab dealership which she successfully managed for over 20 years, and then utilized her business skills to advocate for others through her work in various non-profit organizations. Jenny has led development efforts for the globally renowned University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Institute of Human Virology, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, and the American Heart Association. An active community leader, she has also led key board activities for Executive Alliance, The Family Tree and the United Way of Central Maryland.
She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Goldey Beacom College and a masters in Nonprofit Administration from North Park University. Jenny is a three-time recipient of The Daily Record’s Maryland Top 100 Women and was inducted into the 2012 Circle of Excellence for her commitment to the community and her professional achievements.
“As a Girl Scout alumnae and recipient of the Council’s Distinguished Woman Award in 2009, I am thrilled to be able to lead the Central Maryland organization at this critical time in its history. From the beginning, our mission has always been a collaborative effort between the organization, our dedicated volunteers, our community partners, and the girls to create a safe girl led leadership development experience,” said Jenny Trostel. “The future of girls is and will remain the focus and commitment of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland.”
