Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Board of Directors and staff possess a variety of skills and perspectives, represent a range of ages, and reflect the racial and ethnic diversity in the Council’s jurisdictions.  Our staff and board consists of representatives of the African-American, Asian, Caucasian and Hispanic communities and a broad range of religious denominations. We have representatives with  Girl Scout volunteer experience;  former Girl Scouts; and members with experience in law, finance, education, government, technology, business and fundraising.

Violet M. Apple, Chief Executive Officer

A strong advocate for children, Violet M. Apple has been dedicated to the development and extension of services to girls for over 25 years. 

Violet has a thorough understanding of the complexities of delivering a safe, contemporary Girl Scout programs to girls and values the critical role volunteers play in implementing these services.  She has partnered with major corporations and funders such as the United Way, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Raytheon and Comcast to build program support in the delivery of Girl Scout Leadership Experiences, the Girl Scout Gold Award and STEM initiatives for girls.

Violet become Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Central Maryland in 2014. Since 2008, Violet served as Chief Membership Services Officer for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, headquartered in Boston, and Chief Operating Officer for Girls Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (headquarter in Harrisburg PA). In these positions, Violet was responsible for developing a transitional plan for the merger of seven councils into two, affecting approximately 105,000 girl and adult members.

Her contribution to her local community further confirms her commitment to young people and their development. She is currently serving on the CASA Baltimore Board, WOW (Women of the World) Festival 2016 Board of Directors and provides support to Mischa Toland’s Entrepreneurial Academy for Girls.  She also serves on the national Board Development Committee for Hostelling International-USA.  She is a member of Network 2000, Delta Sigma Theta and a recent graduate of The LEADERship class of 2015.

In addition she has received the following awards: 2016 Daily Record Top 100 Women Award, SMART CEO 2015 Winner - Circle of Excellence, SMART CEO – 2015 Brava Award Winner, YWCA Racial Justice Award in 2007, Women Who Care Award in 2005 and she was awarded the Thanks Badge, the highest award given by Girl Scouts of the USA.

Violet holds a Master of Management degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Penn State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.  She also holds a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Delaware University.
