Join us for this ground-breaking program designed to engage all of our Girl Scouts in age appropriate, candid discussions on a variety of topics, including: racial justice, gender equality, body image, gender identity and more. We have partnered with Art With A HeART, who will be delivering a customized program that invites girls to imagine and explore a variety of materials and concepts while focusing on “Making the World a Better Place”. Girls will have an opportunity to express their personal beliefs and feelings through group discussion, as well as the opportunity to express themselves creatively through hands-on art making processes. Each participant will create artwork to contribute to a community project. The series will begin with an exploration of different aspects of identity and how the qualities that make us unique, help us to make the world a better place. Each girl will receive a journal and she will be asked to design an abstract representation of her identity. Between sessions, girls will use the journal to reflect on specific topics. During the second session, girls will begin to design their paintbrush people. Each girl will start with a sketch highlighting her unique features and will continue to work on her “paintbrush self-portrait” before submitting her work to become part of a community art piece celebrating diversity. During the final three (3) sessions, girls will continue to explore identity by looking at contemporary artists – Simone Leigh, Barbara Kruger and West African Adinkra symbols - and making three (3) pieces of personal art, including a pinch pot portrait, a mantra pin and a values banner. At the end of the series, we will have a special reveal of the final community art project.

Supply boxes may be picked-up via Juliette’s Closet Curbside Pick-up one week after the registration deadline or, boxes may be shipped for an additional $15.00 S&H. You will receive (1) supply box for the entire series. If you miss a session, don’t worry, we will have digital instructions to help you.
