Booth Sale Guidelines
Tips for a Successful Booth Sale

1. Each girl participating in the annual Cookie Sale Program Activity must be a registered member of the organization prior to participating in any sale activities.

2. Troops/Groups must obtain written consent for each girl participating in the Cookie Sale Program Activity. Form G-1, Family/Adult Permission & Responsibility Form for the Annual Cookie Sale, must be completed and on file with the Troop/Group Leader prior to girls participating in any sale activities.

3. Troops/Groups must obtain the permission of a parent/guardian when girls participate in money earning activities outside their regular meeting place; complete the Parent/Guardian Permission Form, 02-002.

4. Troops/Groups must obtain written permission from the assigned Service Unit Booth Sale Coordinator or Service Unit Cookie Manager and have a copy of the approved B/S1-2 Booth Sale Permission Slip.

5. Troops/Groups must adhere to the references above as stated in Safety-Wise and Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Council Policies.

6. Appropriate adult to girl ratio must be adhered to at all times for any Booth Sale activity and only registered adults may be responsible for the safety and security of girls and monies.

  • If some varieties are not selling, open a box (which the troop must purchase), break them into bite-size pieces, and let customers take a sample. This sample will likely spark interest among customers and increase your sales. (Be sure to wear disposable food preparation gloves when handling cookies that will be distributed to the public.)

  • Make an attractive table display to gain customer interest.

  • Bring along your troop goal poster and pictures of activities in which your troop has participated
Girl Responsibilities at the Booth Sale

Girl Responsibilities at Booth Sales

  • Wear uniform/sash or Girl Scout Pin for identification purposes.
  • Bring a signed Parent/Guardian Permission Slip (04-002) to the Booth Sale for each girl, if not collected prior to the event.
  • Display courteous manners at all times.
  • When approaching customers be assertive but not aggressive when selling.
  • Do not go into stores or wander away from the booth to sell cookies.
  • Thank the customer whether or not they purchase cookies.
  • Try to eat/drink and use the restroom prior to starting the Booth Sale.
  • Think of fun sales slogans to attract customers.
  • Promote your Troop’s Gift of Caring Project.
  • Have fun!
Adult Responsibilities at the Booth Sale

Adults supervise the activities of the girls and ensure their safety at all times while at the Booth Sales. They are also responsible for following guidelines, helping the girls make change, making sure the area is left neat and clean and they are responsible for the product and the money.

At least one adult at the Booth Sale MUST be a registered
Girl Scout.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain adequate girl/adult ratios at all times. Never leave girls unattended. Refer to pages 86 and 87 in Safety-Wise guidelines, Standard 6, “Experiences Beyond the Group” and Standard 10, “Parental Permission” and Standard 13, “Leadership of Groups” (pages 69-70)
  • Know the nearest hospital contact numbers and location. Have a cell phone or know the location of the nearest telephone in the event of an emergency.
  • Respect location property and adhere to location policies. Do not block any doorway or identified exit. Do not impede normal pedestrian traffic flow. Be especially mindful of automatic doors, which can be dangerous.
  • Remove all trash from the area and take it home if necessary. Do not use the trash receptacles at the property unless permission is granted. This includes cookie boxes.
  • Keep accurate records of your sales. Make sure your money in hand balances with the total number of boxes sold. TCMs must account for cookies given to Troop leaders or the designated adult running the Booth Sale. It is recommended that the individual accepting the cookies sign for all cookies received and upon reconciliation the TCM signs off and provides a receipt that the individual is released from responsibility.
  • Carry a cash box with about $15-$25 in change, including lots of quarters. Do not depend on the establishment for change. Never leave the cash box unattended.
  • Keep the cash box and extra cookies out of sight but handy. An adult must be responsible for the money.
  • Remove large bills from the cash box periodically and prepare a regular process for moving cash from the primary booth sale location to a secure location.
