SELLING AND SAFETY TIPS

STEPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SELLING

  1. Discuss the products. Be able to talk about why certain products are healthy snacks. People with nut allergies should understand that all products are packed in a plant that processes nuts.
  2. Discuss the important dates of the sale. Know when to sell, turn in order forms, distribute products and turn in money.
  3. Make a list of people who you think might like to purchase products from you.
  4. Use your telephone or e-mail to contact family and friends if your parent or guardian approves.
  5. Identify yourself as a Girl Scout by wearing a membership pin and/or uniform.
  6. Always be courteous and say, “Thank You.”

STEPS FOR STAYING SAFESafety and Selling Tips

  • Return a signed parent/guardian permission slip to your Girl Scout leaders/advisors.
  • All girls must use the buddy system at all times.
  • Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Girls 11-17 must be supervised by an adult when selling door-to-door and must never sell alone. Adults should be present at a booth in public places at all times.
  • Be familiar with the areas and neighborhoods in which you sell. Use safe pedestrian practices at all times.
  • Always have a plan for safeguarding money – avoid walking around with large amounts of cash.
Turn over money to supervising adults to deposit as directed by your council.
  • Do NOT visit or enter the home of a stranger while selling.
  • Dress appropriately for weather conditions. Wear the Girl Scout membership pin and/or Girl
Scout clothing to identify yourself as a Girl Scout.

GOAL SETTING

  • Start by brainstorming what kind of activities your troop/group would like to do. Write your ideas in the “Activity Ideas” yellow cloud on this worksheet.
  • Narrow those activity ideas down to the ones the whole group likes the best. Write those in the “Program Activity Goals” box on the back of this worksheet.
  • Write next to each activity the approximate cost of the activity.
  • Divide that cost by the money per unit your troop/group will receive to determine the number of units you will need to sell.
  • Each girl can set a personal sales and learning goal to achieve in the program.
  • Midway through your sales activities, review your goals and how well you are doing. Make adjustments as needed.
  • Let your customers know your personal learning goals and group goals for the money earned.
  • Chart your individual and group progress on the goal chart each time you reach a new level to track all of your hard work.
