Canada is the second largest country on earth (3,851,790 square miles). It is north of the United States and east of Alaska. According to Canadian estimates the number of Americans of Canadian origin falls between 20-30 million, which is about 9% of the total US population.

    Canada’s flag proudly features a maple tree leaf. Learn more about trees and other plants doing this try it.
  • Sounds of Music Try it
    Make your own musical instruments and then make some music using them. Can you create a song? Listen to Canada’s National Anthem and see if you can play it with your instrument.
  • Earth is Our Home Try it
    Approximately 29% of Canadians recycle. Learn about the benefits of recycling while doing this Try It. Find out how you can make your home a better place.

Money Sense Badge
Research Canadian money. How is it different from American money? Do this badge and learn more about money.

Weather Watch
The average high temperature in January in the Canadian city of Ottawa is -6.1 degrees Celsius. Their average high temperature in July is 26.5 degrees Celsius. Find out how warm that is in Fahrenheit degrees (which is what we use in America.) Then do the Weather Watch badge activities and learn more about predicting and planning for the weather.

Many Canadians are fluent in French – Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick have a majority of French speaking citizens, and the Canadian school system requires mandatory French instruction.

Do this Interest Project and think about how our culture would be if we were all fluent in another language that was required in our schools. Would we have a deeper understanding of different cultures?
 
The Lure of the Language

Do this Interest Project and learn how language links us all.
 
High Adventure

Canadians participate in canoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing, dog sledding, high ropes, hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, kayaking, snow boarding, white-water canoeing and kayaking, and camping. Do this Interest Project and learn more about some of these activities.

Stretching more than 5,000 km from Newfoundland and Labrador in the east to Yukon in the west, and extending south 1,000 km from the edge of the arctic tundra, the Boreal Region of Canada occupies more than half of Canada's land area.It also contains more than 1.5 million lakes and many of the main river systems in the country that form a unique ecosystem filled with animal and plant life. Do the Caitlin Dunbar Patch Program. Compare the plants and animals around our Girl Scout camps with those in the Boreal Region by doing the activities.
