This two-hour program will teach girls archery skills focusing on safety, shooting techniques and target practice. This program promotes responsibility, allowing girls to improve their decision-making skills as they learn to nock an arrow, pull the bow, take a breath, hold still, and release the arrow toward the target.

Get an E.D.G.E. (Adults/Volunteers, $15)
Are you looking for new ideas or need help on a specific Girl Scout topic? If so, make plans to attend Get an E.D.G.E. – Energize, Discover, Galvanize, and Enrich – a Volunteer Enrichment Day at Camp Ilchester on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Workshops will offer materials to share with your girls, personal enrichment activities, outdoor activities, networking, and more. Advance outdoor cooking, event planning, songs and ceremonies are among the many topics available to discuss and explore. Applications are available online at gscm.org in the events sections under volunteer resources and in the Volunteer Resource Center. Registrations will be accepted through September 23 or when the event is full at 125 participants. Admission is $15, which includes program materials and snacks.

At KickXplosions, girls will learn to defend themselves while having fun learning basic self-defense maneuvers and personal safety techniques. Girls should come dressed to move and work hands-on. At Tristar Martial Arts, girls will learn self defense in a variety of situations. Topics discussed are: bullying, safety when alone, and abusive situations. Seniors and Ambassadors will also discuss dating safety and basic self defense techniques. The program may touch on sensitive issues – girls will need a signed parent/guardian permission form to participate in this program.

This day-long event is dedicated to the special health concerns of women. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and volunteers from Girl Scouts of Central Maryland will provide information and pamphlets on different health concerns including: obesity, oral health, folic acid and asthma. The program may touch on sensitive issues – girls will need a signed parent/guardian permission form to participate in this program. We are looking for Program Aides and Senior troops to arrange a panel discussion about wellness. Lunch is included. |

Join us for an afternoon of fun and games. Get a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, enjoy a hayride, a scavenger hunt, some apple cider and snacks. Play some “old fashioned” games with a new twist or have fun doing relay races, climbing the rock wall or making a scarecrow (please bring your own clothes, we will supply the hay). |

The Outdoor Program Staff will teach introduction to camping skills to girls while the adult leaders work with trainers to earn their Let’s Go Camping Certification. This is an excellent opportunity to earn this certification with experienced trainers and bring the girls along to discover the joys of camping with trained staff.
NOTE: There are two Mandatory Pre-Sessions for Adult Camping Certification (Adults Only), Specific locations and dates to be announced. To become Adult Camping Certified, adults must attend both mandatory pre-sessions and the overnight session. |

Seniors and Ambassadors will also discuss dating safety and basic self defense techniques. The program may touch on sensitive issues – girls will need a signed parent/guardian permission form to participate in this program. |

All girls will participate in a discussion about how baskets were used in the ancient world and what they mean today while exploring different examples and techniques of basket making and listening to The Basket Moon by Barbara Cooney. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) invites girls to experience science through demonstrations and hands-on sessions with NIST staff. Girls will learn about metals and alloys, rainbows and mirages, watch electric currents, analyze the structure of crystals and find out how to see invisible light. Bring a bag lunch and beverage. Name, date of birth and citizenship information of every adult and girl attending the event must be provided with registration form. |

This two-hour program will teach girls archery skills focusing on safety, shooting techniques and target practice. This program promotes responsibility, allowing girls to improve their decision-making skills as they learn to nock an arrow, pull the bow, take a breath, hold still, and release the arrow toward the target.

This encampment will be all about building on camping skills as girls of all levels work together to create friendships, fun and adventure. The weekend will include a commemorative item, tent-camping for two nights, program patch, meals and snacks from Friday night through Sunday morning.

Girls will build camping skills and work together to create friendship, fun and adventure at Camp Conowingo during a day of activities with other girls from all over the central Maryland region. The weekend will include tent-camping, program and craft supplies, a patch, meals and snacks. |

Ready...Aim...Bull’s Eye (Girl Scout Junior - Ambassador, $12 per girl)
Session 1: 9 am – 11 am; Session 2: 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm at Camp Ilchester
This two-hour program will teach girls archery skills focusing on safety, shooting techniques and target practice. This program promotes responsibility, allowing girls to improve their decision-making skills as they learn to nock an arrow, pull the bow, take a breath, hold still, and release the arrow toward the target.

Questions about the award and its requirements will be answered here. This workshop is strongly suggested, but not required, for girls, advisors and leaders. |

If you enjoy making tasty meals over a campfire come and compete against other girls in our Iron Chef Girl Scout meal events and earn two IPs. Secret ingredients and cooking materials will be provided for each meal. Troops provide their own food and tents; IPs are included. No individual girl registrations for this event please. The Snyder Foundation for Animals Maryland Spay/Neuter Pin Program teaches girls about caring for pets. Girls will complete two service projects: making cat toys and making dog treats to receive their Spay/Neuter pin and a pet fun patch. They will meet Spirit, a human education service canine. Please bring: dog/cat food, paper towels, baby blankets, birdseed, cat beds, animal toys or snacks to donate to a local animal shelter. |

KidzArt: What’s in Your Garden? (Girl Scout Daisy – Brownie, $22 per girl)

Daisies will work on the What’s in your garden? Journey and do sound sense activities. Brownies will make a home for their own backyard bird and work toward the Eco-Explorer Try-It. All girls will draw and create a bird scene and leave with a birdhouse fit for our real feathered friends to visit and live in. Girls will hear the wonderful story of The Boy Who Drew Birds: A Story of John James Audubon, by Jacqueline Davies and discuss how important birds are to our environment. |

This is a great service project for canine lovers! Troops/girls should bring: dog/cat food, paper towels, baby blankets, birdseed, cat beds, animal toys or snacks to donate to a local animal shelter. Girls will meet Spirit, a service canine, bake dog biscuits, and make catnip toys. The Snyder Foundation will be there to present the Paws to Think Pin program. |

Girls will learn what to do when they are feeling stressed — and how to deal with it. They will practice stress-relieving techniques like massage, meditation and deep breathing while earning requirements towards the From Stress to Success IPA.

Cost includes two meals on Saturday, two meals on Sunday, overnight camping, a program patch and two days of boating. |

Join us for the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta! Teams will construct boats using cardboard and duct tape – see who can stay afloat the longest. Multiple boats may be entered by a troop and leaders/adults may participate.
