Learn-to-Row Day Camp 2015

Learn the sport of rowing with coaches and members of Annapolis Junior Rowing Association. Spend time on the water and on land learning boat handling and rowing technique, general conditioning on the ergometer (rowing machine), and land-based workouts. End the week with a short race to test your rowing skill!

This camp is Girl Scouts entering 8th grade through 12th grade.

What to bring/Wear: A large refillable water bottle, tennis shoes and socks suitable for running, spandex shorts and a close-fitting top (loose or overly long shorts are not suitable for rowing and can cause injury if they get caught in the equipment; if you choose to wear them to practice, please layer your spandex shorts underneath), sunscreen and bug spray, a hat or sunglasses if desired.

Swim Test: Rowing is a water sport. Because of the nature of the sport life jackets are not worn while in the boats, but rather carried on board a safety launch nearby. While the possibility of falling in the water is relatively low, it is still a risk. All camp participants must verify that they can swim by completing the Swim Test Verification form included in the registration packet. Rowers will not be allowed on the water until a Swim Test Verification is on file.

Looking to the Stars

Join us for an evening of exploring the stars and the galaxies above. The evening will start off with an interactive session in which girls will get information about our galaxy and all of the stars, planets, and galactic “bits” that are part of the place we call home. Afterwards, the girls will get to do some actual stargazing with a personal stargazing instrument! This is a drop-off event. Please, no tagalongs.

This event is for Girl Scout Daisies – Juniors
