About

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s summer resident camp at Camp Conowingo, gives girls the chance to experience the outdoors in a safe and caring community, explore the world around them and to thrive in an environment where each girl will build courage, confidence and character! At Camp Conowingo, girls learn everything from archery and horseback riding to science and leadership in an all girl environment that encourages fun and friendship.

Brownies (grades 2-3)

Girl Scout Brownies will rotate through core activities each day, in addition to the specific unit theme activities for the week. Core activities, generally make up three of the five program sessions each day and include; swimming, arts and crafts, ropes course, rockwall climbing and nature exploration. In remaining sessions, girls work toward unit goals and themed activities.
 

S‘mores and More!

Session 1 | $375

Calling all girls who are ready to give resident camp a try! This session gives first timers a chance to sample camp activities – swimming, crafts, songs, making s’mores around the campfire, playing fun games and having lots of fun with the new friends you’ll make at camp!

Gadgets, Gizmos and Goo!

Session 2 | $423

How can you turn everyday items into amazing gadgets, gizmos, and goo? Explore the fun of science as you make ice cream, glow water, ooey gooey slime, and fizzy explosions! Discover how to grow crystals or capture the energy in the air, and make a hovercraft hover! Turn your days inside out with crazy fun while you enjoy Camp Conowingo with new friends. Remember to take a break from experimenting to enjoy some of your favorite camp activities such as swimming, hiking, crafts and more!

Teddy & Me: Mini Week

Session 3 | $241

Head to camp and bring your favorite teddy or stuffed animal along for an adventure! After spending time at the pool, making crafts, singing songs and exploring nature you will find out where

all the teddy bears go for their picnic at Conowingo. Make a new teddy bear friend to take home and enjoy treats at the teddy bear picnic.

Brownie Bounce

Session 4 | $354

Get ready to sing and dance and play all week. You and your new friends will spend your week learning dance moves, hula hooping, singing karaoke and camp songs and coming up with a group number to perform at
the annual Conowingo Creativity Show! One night there will be a very special Brownie only dance party! And it obviously wouldn’t be a good party without ice cream and tons of toppings to make your own sundaes. Of course you will have to rest those dancing feet with breaks at the pool, arts and crafts, and enjoying nature.

Mer-tastic

Session 5 | $401

Just like Ariel the little mermaid, you and your new mer-friends will do everything water this week! Spend extra time in the pool and choose between a sunset or polar bear swim. Explore the waters of Conowingo and search for magical creatures on a creek hike, enjoy a floating lunch and slide your way down the giant Slip n’ Slide. To top it all off, you will celebrate your water-filled week at the All Camp Luau, with water games and a chance to sink the pirates’ canoe in the pool! If you’re feeling waterlogged, dry off by climbing the rock wall, tie-dying or going on a nature hike.

Fairies & Fireflies

Session 6 | $417

Ride on the wings of a firefly to Camp Conowingo and join us for a week of fairy adventures. Choose your own fairy name, make your own fairy costume and earn your fairy wings at the end of the week. You and your fairy friends will get to go swimming, search for fireflies and create fairy crafts.

Be Brave!

Session 7 | $417

Are you brave like, Merida the princess of DunBroch? Head out to camp and explore how you can change your fate and learn what it means to be your best self! This week you and your new “clan” will learn the basics of archery, visit the stables to learn horse care, go on a scavenger hunt led by Conowingo’s Will O’ the Wisps, and plan a clan party and awards ceremony with Queen Elinor.

Water Fun

Session 8 | $401

Come meet new friends above and under the sea this week. You and your new two-legged friends will become mermaids and swim into all kinds of adventures. You will make your own bubble wands, spend extra time in the pool, find new underwater friends on a creek hike, go on a scavenger hunt for sunken pirate treasures, and sing all day long. Catch your breath on land when you go on hikes, make some sea treasure crafts, and relax by the pool.

Juniors (grades 4-5)

Girl Scout Juniors will rotate through core activities each day, in addition to the specific unit theme activities for the week. Core activities, generally make up four of the six program sessions each day and include; swimming, arts and crafts, ropes course, rockwall climbing and nature exploration. In remaining sessions, girls work toward unit goals and themed activities.
 

Just Camp!

Session 1 & 6 | $385

Come and do it all! Designed for both first-timers and return campers, this session lets you have fun at camp for a short week! Sing songs, cook over a campfire, go swimming, hiking and more. You will get the chance to make new friends, do cool arts & crafts projects, play fun games, and try everything that is Camp Conowingo. Don’t forget to try the s’mores!

Adventure Sports 

Session 1 & 5 |$446

Do you like all things adventure? During this “extreme” week, you and your team will test your skills on the ropes course, improve your rock climbing technique, learn the basics of canoeing, and aim for the bull’s eye in archery. Your group will also choose from a variety of other fun activities such as non-stop cricket, pool volleyball, hula hooping, basketball and soccer. All of this on top of your favorite camp activities like swimming, creek hikes and more!

Junior Jams

Session 2 & 5 | $460

This session is jam packed with a bit of everything for the first-time camper! Get creative with arts and crafts, spend a session canoeing, learn about nature, get on a horse and go on a corral ride, challenge yourself to climb the rockwall, and meet new friends while roasting s’mores around the campfire. This is a great introduction for new campers. (Horses may not be ridden in excessive heat. If this occurs, other activities will be offered during that time.)

Wet Wild & Cool

Session 2 |$417

Come to this session and explore the wet and wonderful world of water. Spend extra time in the pool, play water games, choose between a polar bear or sunset swim, and paddle around the Conowingo Lagoon during a canoe session. Then, have some fun in the sun with water balloon volleyball, a splash contest, water aerobics, and many other water- related games! When you are not at the pool, have fun participating in a variety of other camp activities such as arts and crafts, ropes course and creek hikes.

Kayak Attack

Session 2 |$492

Do you love water sports and great scenery? If so, this is the perfect session for you! You will start your adventure by learning all the basics of kayaking on flat water, performing rescue and safety techniques and practicing paddle strokes. Then, you will go off camp to enjoy the panoramic views as you paddle and explore local waterways. When your arms need a rest, you can relax and participate in other camp activities such as arts and crafts and swimming.

Camp Sampler

Session 3 | $251

Head out to camp and spend your session trying out everything Camp Conowingo has to offer! Meet up with new friends and spend your time going on creek hikes, conquering the ropes course, seeing the view from the top of the rockwall, and cooking a meal over the campfire. Don’t forget to save some time for a visit to the stables for a corral ride, arts and crafts, and of course swimming too!! (Horses may not be ridden in excessive heat. If this occurs, other activities will be offered during that time).

Art-Rageous

Session 3 & 6 | Session 3 Mini Week: $246 | Session 6: $407

Come to camp for an outrageous time as you paint, draw, stamp and mold projects, make collages, create lanyards and friendship bracelets, and lots more! Discover the artist within, as you work with media such as hemp, string, fabric and rubber bands all while you use the beautiful surroundings as your inspiration and make new friends along the way. Campers also get to enjoy pool time, sports, nature, and more.

Saddles, Paddles and Arrows

Session 4 & 7 | $476

You will spend your time enjoying horses, archery and canoeing this week. Learn the fundamentals of canoeing and take two trips to the horse stables for corral rides. Top it off with a bull’s-eye in archery class. Swimming, making crafts and going on nature hikes are all a part of this adventure filled week. (Horses may not be ridden in excessive heat. If this occurs, other activities will be offered during that time).

Outdoor Artisan

Session 4 & 8 | $401

Express your creativity this week at camp! Use nature as your inspiration to create art. Take time to be outdoors and enjoy its peacefulness. Learn how to use art to express your feelings. Work on two-dimensional pieces as well as your own personal sketchbook. As a group, create a sculpture out of recyclable materials or a portable mural for display.

Zombie Survival

Session 5 | $446

Do you have what it takes to endure a zombie invasion? Learn the survival skills needed to stay alive after the rise of the undead. Learn about edible plants, navigation by the stars, first aid in case of emergencies and other helpful information to keep you from becoming a zombie snack. Whether you have zombies on your lawn or are surrounded by the walking dead, this program can help you make it out alive.

Tribute Training

Session 6 | $446

At the Capitol, Katniss Everdeen learned many important survival skills in the Hunger Games, now it’s your turn! Join us at Camp Conowingo’s Training Center to enhance your tribute skills. You and your fellow tributes will learn fire building, how to find food in the wilderness, practice basic first aid, decorate with camouflage and try your hand at archery too! Optional: Come dressed as a tribute or as your favorite character. May the odds be ever in your favor!

Hogwoods: Camp of Magic

Session 7 | $433

Are you tired of the muggle world? Then join your sister magicians at Camp Conowingo for a week filled with adventure and magic. Find yourself sorted into your “house” (buddies will be kept in the same “house”) before participating in a number of amazing activities. Try your hand at divination, see if you can read your cookie crumbs, study magical creatures, and participate in wizard duels. Take a break to watch a Harry Potter movie with some popcorn and participate in your favorite camp activities like swimming, campfires and more!

We Want It All!

Session 8 |  $460

Do you want to do everything at Camp Conowingo? Then this is your chance! Go on creek hikes and cook your own meal over the campfire. See how quickly you can climb the rockwall and work as a team to conquer the ropes course. You will even get a chance to visit the stables and go on a horseback ride in the corral. Make new friends as you sit ‘round the campfire, do arts and crafts, swim and enjoy nature activities. (Horses may not be ridden in excessive heat. You and your new mermaid friends will do everything water this week! Go on a creek hike and explore the creatures that swim through Conowingo. When you feel waterlogged, dry off and spend some time doing arts and crafts, nature activities, solving challenges on the ropes course and more.

Conowingo Chillin'

Relax while learning tips and techniques for taking care of yourself. Girls will pamper themselves by turning their unit into a camp spa. Listen to soothing music, learn about healthy eating, make natural beauty products, do yoga and more. Girls will also spend time enjoying camp activities like crafts, hikes and campfires.

Put your detective skills to the test in a Camp Scene Investigation: find clues, test fingerprints, question witnesses and decode a secret message in order to catch a crook. When you need a break, go for a swim, climb the rockwall or tie-dye a shirt in arts and crafts.

Spend three days and two nights of explosive watery fun in Delta, PA! Try the kayak luge, snorkel, zip line, floating wall and more, then return to Conowingo to enjoy all of your favorite camp activities.

Cast Iron Chef Season Seven!

Try new cuisines, cook meals and learn new techniques to become Conowingo’s Season Seven Cast Iron Chef! You will face challenges and mystery ingredients that you must use in your judged dish. At the end of the week, you'll host a culinary tasting tour in hopes of winning the Cast Iron Chef title. And when not in competition, cool off in the pool and enjoy other camp activities.

Come to Conowingo and get in touch with your inner Katniss. Spend your week perfecting your aim in archery and enhancing your survival skills. Pay close attention as you learn valuable tips in fire building, first aid, plant identification, shelter construction and camouflaging. Spend this week deciding with your group what you would like to do. Choose from all the activities Conowingo has to offer. You could be rock climbing in the morning, canoeing in the afternoon and horseback riding into the early evening. Or, you could be on the ropes course for a while, take a break in the pool and then do arts and crafts. It is up to you to create your own adventure this week!

Seniors & Ambassadors (grades 9-12)

Every camper's day is split into sessions, and girls rotate through activity sessions as a group. In addition to their program theme activity, all girls will have the opportunity to experience core camp activities like swimming, arts and crafts, campfires, nature exploration and more.

You Can’t do THAT at Camp!

Enjoy summer the right way with a week full of movies, songs, late nights, yoga, and even pizza delivery! Of course, you’ll also want to participate in some of the activities you CAN do at camp— like arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing, ropes and archery. You plan your week because you CAN do that at camp.

High Adventure

Session 2 | $423

Spend six adventurous days at Camp Conowingo. Start off with team-building activities on our low ropes course. Refine your climbing skills on the rockwall, then learn how to belay and tie figure eight and bowline knots as your team conquers the high ropes course and zip line. Search for geocaches, canoe the lagoon and of course enjoy the pool, arts and crafts, nature and archery too!

CSI: Conowingo

Session 2 | $429

In this STEM filled week grab your crime tape and microscope, and use your detective skills to perform a camp scene investigation. Using science, technology and your intuition to analyze clues, examine fingerprints, question witnesses and decode a secret message. You’ll have to figure out the pattern that will lead you to the suspect.

Holiday in Harpers Ferry

Session 4 | $584

After a night at Conowingo meeting other campers in your group and packing gear for the trip, you’ll travel to Harpers Ferry for camping in Maple Tree Campground’s tree houses, hiking along the Appalachian Trail, tubing on a nearby river, exploring shops and restaurants in Harpers Ferry and relaxing with new friends. Afterwards, it’s back to Conowingo for the all-camp activity on Thursday night.

NEW! Amusement Park Overload

Session 5 | $599

Spend Sunday and Monday relaxing at camp before you set off on your adventure. You’ll go to Six Flags, then come back to camp before heading out to Hersheypark on Wednesday where you will spend the night before spending all day in the park. Don’t forget to come back to camp and enjoy our camp activities on Thursday night!

Camp-made by YOU

Session 5 | $429

Make your own paper and then learn how to make it into a book. You will also make your own duct tape wallet, candles, and even make your own jewelry. If the wild raspberries and blackberries are ready, we might can our own jam for you to take home.

Outdoor Explorer

Session 6 | $583

Spend an action-packed, fun filled week at Conowingo. You will have a chance to work on the Adventurer and Ultimate Challenge recreation badges. Spend the day on the high ropes course, go on an overnight hike, spend time at the stables, and even go on an all-day caving trip.

Session 7 | $498

During this adventure-bound session you will hike a small portion of the famous Appalachian Trail. To get a taste of the legendary backpacking experience, spend the first day going over maps and preparing your gear for a trip into the Shenandoah National Park. Head out the next morning for three days of hiking past waterfalls, over mountain vistas, and through beautiful oak forests.

Moonlight Mayhem

Session 8 | $441

Sleep under the stars, go on twilight hikes, stargaze, play flashlight tag, learn about nocturnal animals, throw a glow party and have a late-night cookout. Learn how to use a star map, and hear stories about constellations from different cultures. Record some of the stories using sequential art techniques. And of course, you get to sleep in!

Work At Camp

Looking for a rewarding and fun summer job? Camp Counselors work with girls and young women in the outdoors to help them realize their full potential, gain self-confidence and become future leaders. Girl Scouts of Central Maryland summer resident camp takes place at Camp Conowingo, a 600-acre property alongside the beautiful Susquehanna River in Cecil County, Maryland. Resident camp programs include swimming, kayaking, rockwall climbing, arts & crafts, travel camps, outdoor cooking, high & low ropes courses and more!

Resident Camp staff is recruited regionally and from around the world. We carefully select staff from within the United States and abroad. We believe a diverse staff offers girls of all ages the opportunity to meet people from near and far, and to learn more about themselves and people who are different from them. All applicants are background checked, fingerprinted and drug screened. Specialty program instructors (lifeguards, horse personnel) have extensive knowledge in their areas of expertise.

Host Families Needed!

Help our international camp staff members settle into America before they begin their summer adventure at camp. Sign up to be a host family today! 

Counselor in Training
Get an introduction to the camp world seen through the eyes of a Camp Counselor at Counselor in Training and Counselor in Training II. These programs, offered during summer camp sessions, give girls a chance to begin developing their skills as a future camp staff member as they learn to facilitate camp activities, work with younger campers, and develop camp program ideas. Girls that participate in CIT I will earn a First Aid/CPR certification.

Wrangler in Training
Wrangler in Training and Wrangler in Training II gives girls the chance to work behind the scenes at the Camp Conowingo stables with our horse staff. Wranglers-in-Training must have previous horse experience in riding and horse care and must have documented experience to apply. Girls in the WIT and WIT II program will work directly with the horse staff in every aspect of the horse program including horse maintenance, teaching and giving input on the program itself.
