Cookies from the Heart
Salute your community heroes with Girl Scout Cookies! Boxes of Girl Scout Cookies donated to Cookies from the Heart will be delivered to military personnel and families who make huge sacrifices to keep our country safe. It’s our way of saying ‘thanks’ to our military heroes for all that they do!
When you donate a box of cookies, not only are you saying ‘thanks’ to local heroes, you’re also supporting girls in your community.
You’re helping them develop leadership skills that last a lifetime, work on community service projects, and make the world a better place.
Girl Scouts and troops across central Maryland often use their cookie proceeds to thank military personnel and families for their service. Girl Scout Cadette Malerie of troop 211 in Columbia, Md. read a newspaper article about a local military veteran, Don Downer, who was spending his own money to purchase items for military personnel stationed overseas. She was inspired to help him reach his goal of shipping out his 500th care package.
Malerie enlisted the help of her troop members and created the Young Patriots Club to make care packages for the military. Each of the girls selected a soldier or marine for whom they packed a box and wrote a personal note. A few weeks later, with the help of friends and family who gave generously, they helped Don reach his goal of sending 500 care packages.
Malerie and her troop continue to create care packages for the military with her Girl Scout troop as well as go to BWI/Marshall airport to meet and greet soldiers who were arriving from and departing to overseas tours of duty.
Girl Scout Kate also wanted to show her support for men and women in uniform and created a non-profit business to take that support to the next level. Last year, she sent more than 1,200 care packages to soldiers overseas. Watch the video below to hear her story:
