Success Story from Troop 5019:
Troop Raises Money to Donate 47 Boxes to USO
<Community Times, December 12, 2007>

Not only did Troop 5019 sell more than 3,100 boxes of Girl Scout cookies (when their goal was 2,000 boxes), but they also raised enough money for their Gift of Caring project to donate 47 boxes of cookies to the USO. The girls then passed out the boxes of cookies to US soldiers as they were leaving the airport to travel overseas. The girls asked their teachers, coaches and people at their places of worship as well as immediate family, close friends and neighbors. Once the pre-order cookies arrived, the girls used hand-made door hangers notifying neighbors that the cookies were in. The troop also conducted three successful booth sales in front of Reisterstown and Owings Mills businesses. The girls wore big smiles and displayed hand-made signs while waving to the passing traffic. They sung holiday songs and wore cookie costumes to grab even more attention.

Not only did the girls work hard to sell cookies, they also learned some valuable lessons. They worked on overcoming their shyness to talk to new people. They learned money management skills, such as calculating money owed and making change, and they acquired marketing tools to sell cookies.

Success Story from Cyndi C:
Junior GS troop 510, led by troop leader Dr. Alice Tanner and Cookie Mom Jennifer Merrill have made an extraordinary effort to support troops assigned overseas.  For the past 5 years the Girl Scout troop has chosen to include the troops in their Gift of Caring donations and have shipped many cases of cookies to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Persian gulf.  Their cookies have gone to Marines, Sailors, soldiers and Airmen serving in hostile areas.  For their efforts, they were recognized and mentioned on Montel Williams'  holiday show in 2006 (filmed on location in the Persian Gulf) and more recently (December 9, 2007) they were awarded a flag that had been flown in November 2007 over a base in Iraq.  Additionally, each troop member received military coins in recognition of their effort selling cookies for gift of caring and for remembering the troops.

Success Story from Heather S.:
Our Cookie Mom, Beverly B., was on the money.  She was organized with spreadsheets and everything to make everything successful. All the girls' cookie and booth sales went as planned and all cookies were accounted for at all times.  I still can't believe this was her first (hopefully not her last) year as our Cookie Mom.  Thanks to Bev, our very small troop had a very productive sale!!

Success Story from Sarah L.
My goal was originally 400, then I switched to 500. I wanted to sell 400 boxes since I had sold 350 last year. After our second booth sale, I was up to 454 and decided to go for 500. My mom helped by spreading the word at her office. I reached my goal of 500, and I am SO happy!

Success Story from Gina P.:
Click for a better viewGina's goal is to sell 750 boxes of cookies this year. To help her out, she and other members of her troop designed cubicle posters. All of the girls in her troop wrote what they were selling and what their goals were on their posters and added things that they thought that would help them sell cookies. Then they took the posters home and added a picture. After that, they sent the posters to work with someone that worked in an office or cubicle or had a lunchroom in which they could hang the poster. One girl sold over 50 boxes with the help of her cubicle poster! Gina's dad had his football buddies fill out the order form on the poster, which is another great idea. Gina also had the opportunity to send her poster to NASA, which is fantastic! For such a great audience she added some more pictures, added a longer explanation about her goals and the cookie sale, and even added a pen that has Velcro on it so there would always be a pen there with which to order cookies. Good luck, Gina!

Success Story from Adrienne F.:
Adrienne sold 300 boxes of cookies last year. Her goal is 400 boxes this year. Go Adrienne! You can make your goal!

Recipe from Sylvia S. on behalf of the GSCM Archives Committee:

Cookie used: Lemon Creme Chalets

The Archives Committee came across this recipe calling for Vanilla Chalet Cremes and thought that the Lemon ones would be just as good. The original recipe came from Jennifer R. who was pursuing her AA in Professional Cooking when she wrote this recipe.

Yields 1 serving
4 Lemon Chalet Cremes
1/2 C vanilla yogurt
1/4 banana
1 strawberry, sliced

Crush cookies and put half of them on the bottom of cup or small bowl. Spoon 3 Tbs yogurt over crushed cookies. Fan sliced strawberry (reserving one slice for the garnish). Spoon on remaining yogurt. Slice banana and layer over the yogurt. Sprinkle remaining crushed cookies on top. Garnish with strawberry slice and enjoy!
