Adults Connecting and Cultivating Expertise for Success in Scouting
The 2008 Annual Spring Conference for adults is quickly approaching. Anthony Alexander Guerra, Pharm. D., CVS Pharmacist, RE/MAX Realtor®
Dr. Tony Guerra works in Baltimore as a community pharmacist for CVS, Realtor ® for RE/MAX, test prep teacher for Kaplan and as an assistant track and field coach for Seton Keough High School. He’s presented to audiences at colleges, businesses, senior centers and various organizations from the Baltimore Junior Association of Commerce to the YMCA on varied topics from work/life balance to working by referral to financial freedom. Tony, modeling his parent’s example, has spent a lifetime volunteering. From mentorship to leadership to fundraising Tony has given back to many, many groups. As a mentor, Tony volunteers in Junior Achievement, is a Toastmaster and sits on the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors education committee. As a leader, Tony directs a small group within his business coaching ranks as a Peak Performer; he has organized the most successfully attended alumni reunion as chair of the pharmacy school’s reunion committee; and he works with the Pharmacy Leadership and Education Institute as a facilitator. As a fundraiser, Tony has developed sales for non-profits that have lasted far beyond his tenure as a student or employee. At the school of pharmacy alone his pharmacy fraternity ranks as one of the top 5 nationally in fundraising- not only for themselves but for the charities they support including the Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In addition, Tony enjoys travelling with his wife Mindy, running competitively in 5K races and half-marathons and playing broomball and softball as part of the Baltimore Sports and Social Club.

Kate Gottlieb, GSUSA Disabilities Consultant in Membership and Volunteerism
Kate has been with GSUSA since June 2006 and has worked in the disability field for over 10 years. As the GSUSA Disabilities Consultant in the Membership and Volunteerism division she is responsible for developing and facilitating disability awareness and inclusion training, developing best practices for inclusion, and providing councils with membership strategies to recruit girls with disabilities to Girl Scouts. Prior to her work at GSUSA, Kate founded the Medicaid Service Coordination unit for a New York City non-profit agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.

Naomi King, Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Business Volunteers
As the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for Business Volunteers, Ms. King works directly with volunteers. Prior to her work at BVU, Naomi served as Community Liaison for the Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound Center, an outdoor leadership program, and as an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow in public schools in Knoxville, TN. Naomi has been a volunteer and has utilized volunteers throughout her career, developing her extensive experience in this area. Ms. King holds a BA in International Studies and Women’s Studies from Queens University in Charlotte, NC. A native of Tennessee, she has studied and traveled abroad gaining knowledge and sharing life experiences.

Toby Treem Guerin, Deputy Director for the Center for Dispute Resolution, UM School of Law
A 2002 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, Ms. Guerin currently serves as the Deputy Director for the Center for Dispute Resolution at the University of Maryland School of Law (www.cdrum.org). As Deputy Director, Ms. Guerin is responsible for program development, training, and mediation coordination. Ms. Guerin mediates and facilitates in various venues including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and the court system. She recently served as the chairperson of the Mediator Excellence Council, a mediator quality assurance initiative in Maryland spearheaded by the Maryland Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office and currently chairs the program’s Mentoring Task Group. Ms. Guerin has conducted trainings on the topics of co-mediation, elicitive feedback, mentoring, and effective communication, among others.
