Girl Scout Urban Program & Environmental Training Center
Girl Scouts of Central Maryland recently purchased the additional 6,300 square feet of space at the Seton Service Center location to expand our capabilities to achieve our goal of developing girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. We ask for your support as we work to realize our dream of creating the Girl Scout Urban Program & Environmental Training Center, a new capital project that will serve the nearly 30,000 Girl Scouts in our community and offer new programs and resources for girls and volunteers.
Take a moment to…
Discover the possibilities…Imagine a multi-use mecca for all Girl Scouts and volunteers. Imagine a program and environmental activity center that is located in the city, and accessible by bus, Light Rail and the 695 beltway to our members who live in the city and the surrounding counties. That’s what the Girl Scout Urban Program & Environmental Training Center will be:
A place where girls and adults can come to enjoy dance and physical fitness activities in a safe environment;
A place where girls can take part in programs that promote math, science and technology by participating in hands-on activities that broaden and enhance their skills;
A place where volunteers can more easily peruse the information housed in the Volunteer Resource Center Library; have small meetings and have access to audiovisual equipment, including free computer/internet ready workstations; and,
A place where a roof-top atrium exists, bringing the outdoors in.
Connect with other Girl Scouts and volunteers…The Girl Scout Urban Program & Environmental Training Center could serve as an additional facility for troops, groups and volunteers to meet, plan or implement activities. It could also serve as an additional location for city troops and groups, who cannot always get to activities at our camp locations, to participate in program activities because of its proximity to the city and local transportation.
Take Action…We need your support and the support of your State Senators and Delegates. They need to know that you support this expansion of the Girl Scout program and office space and why. Girl Scouts of Central Maryland is still among the largest Girl Scout Councils in the nation; the programs we provide do have a positive impact on thousands of girls. The extension of the Seton Service Center could serve as a model facility for leadership training and girl empowerment and enrichment—through the programs and speakers provided and as an enhancement to the programs offered at our current properties.
We urge you to lend your support to this unique expansion opportunity. The possibilities and potential are endless. Your support can help make this dream for our girls a reality. Click here to identify your local senator and delegates. Then, please download the suggested letters to Governor O’Malley and your State Senator and Delegates or write your own and urge them to support the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s request for inclusion in the Governor’s capital projects budget and to vote YES for the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Bond Bill.
Thank you, in advance, for your support for this project and for all the possibilities it will provide for our girls in central Maryland.
