You Can Make a Difference!

This could be the opportunity of a lifetime!  GSCM is looking for delegates to attend the Girl Scout National Council’s 51st Convention. The event takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 30 through November 2, 2008.  What an exciting opportunity to participate using your parliamentary procedures skills as you make a difference in the GSUSA convention. This is your chance to network and take part in the political process of Girl Scouting on the national level and make your vote count.  If you are an adult member of Girl Scouts of Central Maryland or a girl member age 14 or over, you are eligible to be a delegate. 

The national convention takes place every three years.  During this impressive meeting of Girl Scouts from all across the United States, the National Council deliberates and votes on proposals that have long-term implications for Girl Scouts and the Girl Scout movement. As a National Council delegate you will assume one of the most significant responsibilities in Girl Scouts—preparing for participation in the democratic process at the National Council Session.

To begin this three-year term, adults and girls elected as delegates take part in training, developing open-mindedness to better understand the diversity of viewpoints presented and their impact on Girl Scouting. Delegates are also advised to keep the welfare and future development of the entire Girl Scout movement foremost in mind as they vote for or against the various proposals on the floor. This is your opportunity to have a say in the future of Girl Scouts and to make a difference! What a leadership opportunity for all involved! And if that isn’t enough, GSCM pays for the cost of the trip, lodging and meals!

Delegates, who must be registered members of GSUSA at the time of the convention, will be elected at the Annual Meeting in May 2008. The deadline to submit your name for election consideration is January 15, 2008.  Don’t delay!  Opportunity may only knock once!!
