Safety Tips for Girls
and Adults

Safety is of the utmost importance for girls and adults. Group Leaders must follow Safety-Wise Guidelines at ALL times!

  • Girls should wear Girl Scout identification when selling cookies. Girls may wear their uniform, sash, vest, official Girl Scout pins or Girl Scout T-shirt.
  • Girls should be familiar with the neighborhoods where they sell Girl Scout cookies.
  • Girls must sell with a buddy at all times.
  • Girls should sell only during daylight hours unless accompanied by an adult when selling at booth sale locations. No booth sale should be conducted after 9 PM. Permission must be obtained from parent/guardian for all girls to participate at booth sales and the general cookie sale.
  • An adult must accompany a Brownie or Junior Girl Scout when girls selling cookies.
  • Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts should be supervised by an adult when they are selling cookies.
  • NEVER enter a customer's home.
  • Two adults must be present, at all times, when Girl Scouts operate a booth in a store, mall, or other public place. Refer to Safety-Wise for more guidelines.
  • When selling at booth sales, it is recommended that one of the adults be certified as a First Aider. This is not a requirement, however highly recommended for the safety and well being of girls. When groups sell at booth sales adults are required to locate the nearest hospital, fire department and/or police station in the event of an emergency.
  • NEVER give out names, addresses or telephone numbers of girls to customers. If it is necessary to give out a telephone number, give the group leader's telephone number. Girls are given money envelopes to use during the cookie sale to collect money from customers. Please write the following information on the outside of the envelope: GIRL SCOUTS OF CENTRAL MARYLAND, 410.358.9711, the FIRST name and first letter of their last name ONLY, Community/Group #. In the event that envelopes are lost customers should contact Girl Scouts of Central Maryland to report the lost envelope.
  • Safeguards for money collected must be coordinated by adults. Money must be given to the accompanying or supervising adult frequently to avoid girls walking around with large sums of cash.
  • Selling Girl Scout Cookies is a fun, learning activity for girls, please help to keep them safe at all times!
