Year Round Events
GSCM Chorus	(Girls 5-17 and Adults, $10 per person) Register by October 15, 2010, (although newcomers are welcome throughout the year) If you love to sing, this is the activity for you! We perform all over central Maryland – parades, malls, festivals, and Girl Scout activities. We rehearse on Sunday afternoons at Clementine Peterson Activity Center and in eastern Baltimore County as well, five or six times a year, with a gala overnight rehearsal at Peterson Center on Friday, November 5. Travel Pathway	If you or your troop has ever wondered what Girl Scouting is like in other countries or right here in other parts of the United States, this is your chance to find out by joining a council-sponsored or nationally sponsored Girl Scout trip. Traveling builds leadership skills and cross cultural understanding and it is an exciting way to experience the world. Have a small, local excursion or plan for a longer national or international adventure with your troop or group. Participants must be registered Girl Scouts. Group sizes are limited to 12–16 girls with two adults. Girls will have opportunities to participate in various money-earning activities and events; including the annual Cookie Program. Space is limited so sign up and get connected to some great travel opportunities! Nature Tours	(All Levels , $5 per person) By Appointment at the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center at Camp Ilchester Visit our Nature Center and pet our Corn and Eastern King Snakes, see a tarantula close-up, watch how a bee colony makes honey, and take a walk outside on our nature trail! Nature Tours can be scheduled by appointment any day after school and on available weekends. Nature Work Days	(All Levels) By Appointment at the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center at Camp Ilchester & Camp Conowingo Volunteers of all ages are invited to pitch in to help with wildlife and enhance the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center and the surrounding camp grounds. The tasks vary from month to month and will change with the seasons. Come dressed for the outdoors, bring your work gloves, and help clear the nature paths, rake leaves, get soils ready for gardening, and a variety of other tasks. Nature Program Workshops	(All Levels, $8 per person) By Appointment at the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center at Camp Ilchester Let the Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center help your troop earn a nature-oriented badge. Nature Program Workshops can be scheduled by appointment any day after school or available weekends, at any GSCM Camp Property or other suitable area. Sept. 10	Program Aide Training: Basic 9:30 am - noon, Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Camp Ilchester Girl Scout Cadettes - Ambassadors Cost is $7 per girl, $15 per adult Register by August 30, 2011 This leadership workshop will teach girls the basic aspects of becoming a Program Aide (responsibilities of leadership, Girl Scout basics, growth and development, the group process, etc). Completion of Basic Program Aide training is required prior to taking the Activity or Outdoor Program Aide sections. Please bring a lunch!

Sept. 18	Girls Go STEM 1 - 5:30 pm, GSCM Urban Program & STEM Center At Girls Go STEM, you will get to see how fun science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) can be by participating in some of the many programs that we offer throughout the day. Learn how candy is made through our new Science in the Kitchen Program (developed by Johns Hopkins University Center for Educational Outreach), play with some robots, build your own playground, design your own toys, and learn how to survive in the wild like a Girl Scout engineer! Sept. 21	Chemistry in the Kitchen Series with Chef Brian 6 - 8 pm, GSCM Urban Program & STEM Center Girl Scout Juniors - Cadettes Cost is $15 per girl Science and food make a sizzling combination! Girls will be introduced to the basic principles of chemistry, physics, biology and more through hands-on experiments. For example, in the Science of Sugar session, you will learn about the science of sugar and the process that it goes through to make various types of candy. Each date will be fun packed with different experiments; sign up for one or all! Spring/summer sessions will be posted in January 2012.
Sept. 23	Noah's Ark: Art and Animals 6:30 - 7:30 pm, GSCM Urban Program & STEM Center Girl Scout Daisies - Juniors Cost is $25 per girl Girls will create their own stuffed animals as they learn simple drawing techniques using pencils, markers, crayons, or pieces of chalk to make different types of lines and shapes. After their animals are completed, they will share their drawings and/or their stuffed animals with one another. Each girl will receive a Noah’s Ark Workshop animal with birth certificate, T-shirt, wishing star and fun patch. The artist animal outfit will be available for purchase ($12).

Find out about shadows and make your own glow in the Dark Sweet Dream bracelet. This is a great activity for the new camper.

Energy Pledge 6 - 8 pm, Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Camp Ilchester Girl Scout Juniors Cost is $17 per girl Girls commit to an energy pledge, take a look at packaging, and sort through some of the wasted energy they see around them. If available, bring some left over product packaging from home and some scrap paper. We will be doing a bit of our own recycling and blending up some handmade paper!

Girls explore and reflect on their energy usage and consider ways they can lessen their environmental impact as they learn to design and construct their own “green” studio. Girls earn the Make It Green patch.

Oct. 1	Adventure Sports 10 am (Oct. 1) - 10 am (Oct. 2), Camp Whippoorwill Girl Scout Juniors Cost is $50 per girl, $15 per adult During this adventure-filled weekend girls will have a blast making friends, canoeing or kayaking in the Magothy River, challenging themselves on the rock wall and working together to navigate challenge courses they created. The girl fee includes overnight camping, activities and three meals.
Oct. 1	It's Your Planet - Love It! Water Arts Noon - 2:30 pm, GSCM Urban Program & STEM Center Girl Scout Brownies $17 per girl Join us for some fun filled water arts activities! We will dive into the science of water and other liquids to produce some unique artwork. We will be marbling, learning about watercolor and creating designs with water. That’s why A-list Hollywood celebrities are getting busy shaking their booties and having fun. We will learn Zumba dance moves plus do some health and nutrition activities too. By the end of our Zumbathon, you will not only know the best way to do Zumba, but also how many calories we burn doing it and the best way to fuel your body!

Come and find out about some of the things you will do at camp including hikes and camp snacks. Wear your play clothes.
Oct. 9	Math Whiz 1 - 3 pm, Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Camp Ilchester Girl Scout Juniors Cost is $10 per girl Did you know that math is used everywhere? Whether you need to make change, follow a recipe, build a table, figure out how far the next town is while traveling or even to the next galaxy you can become a math whiz! You will participate in fun math activities and games to help you with your math skills. To top it off, we will have lots of fun with prizes!

Oct. 15	KidzArt: Konnichiwa Tomadachi 10 am - noon, Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Camp Ilchester Girl Scout Daisies - Brownies Cost is $22 per girl Register by September 23 Konnichiwa Tomodachi! Hello friend! But please leave your shoes at the door! Come with KidzArt on a spectacular ‘trip’ to the land of the rising sun—Japan! Girls will listen to a Japanese folk tale and hear traditional music while drawing a magnificent kimono. There will be a discussion about how friends and teams work together. Additionally, this project will work toward various petals and badges.
Oct. 15	GSCSI: Uncovering the Evidence IP Juniors: 10 am - noon , Cadettes: 1 - 3 pm, Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Camp Ilchester $12 per girl, $14 per adult Do you love watching CSI? Do you like solving mysteries? Would you like to know how to investigate a crime scene and solve a murder mystery? Attend this program to unlock those science-sleuthing secrets. Girl Scout style. Oct. 15	Camping 101 9 am (October 15) - 11 am (October 16), Camp Woodlands (mandatory adult pre-sessions: Anne Arundel County) Girl Scout Brownies - Juniors and their Adult Girl Scouts Cost is $10 per girl. *There are two Mandatory Pre-Sessions for Adult Camping Certification (adults only). Specific locations and dates to be announced. To become Adult Camping Certified, adults must attend both mandatory pre-sessions and the overnight session. The Outdoor Program Staff will teach introduction to camping skills to girls while the adult leaders work with trainers from the Volunteer Services department to earn their “Let’s Go Camping” Certification. This is an excellent opportunity to earn this certification with experienced trainers and bring the girls along to discover the joys of camping with trained staff.
Oct. 15	Medieval Maidens Festival 4 - 7 pm, Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Camp Ilchester Girl Scout Juniors Cost is $10 per girl Register by October 7, 2011 Find out how girls and women lived during the middle ages. What did they wear? What did they do for fun? You will learn the answers to these questions and play some Medieval games. Every participant will receive a patch and a book from the Medieval Maidens book series!

Oct. 24	The Chemistry of Ceramic Cookies Session 1: October 24, November 7, November 14, December 5, December 12, 6:30 pm – 8 pm, GSCM Urban Program & STEM Center Girl Scout Cadettes– Ambassadors Cost: $50 This hands-on arts program will have you learning the science of ceramics as you delve into the chemistry of clay and glazes. You will create molds from real cookies with ceramic mold plaster and then use our molds to make ceramic cookies! This multi week program will give you time to produce plenty of fantastic art or to focus on one special piece. You will have the opportunity to create 100th anniversary tiles and/or create artwork to donate to our annual online Girl Scout auction!

Nov. 19	Camping 101 9 am (November 19) - 11 am (November 20), Camp Conowingo (mandatory adult pre-sessions: Harford County) Girl Scout Brownies - Juniors and their Adult Girl Scouts Cost is $10 per girl. *There are two Mandatory Pre-Sessions for Adult Camping Certification (adults only). Specific locations and dates to be announced. To become Adult Camping Certified, adults must attend both mandatory pre-sessions and the overnight session. The Outdoor Program Staff will teach introduction to camping skills to girls while the adult leaders work with trainers from the Volunteer Services department to earn their “Let’s Go Camping” Certification. You will create molds from real cookies with ceramic mold plaster and then use our molds to make ceramic cookies! This multi week program will give you time to produce plenty of fantastic art or to focus on one special piece. Jan. 14	Girl Scout Media Day at the Newseum Newseum in Washington D.C. Girl Scout Juniors - Ambassadors $18 per girl Register by January 7, 2012 Enjoy three hours or all day at the Newseum. Show what you know about Girl Scouts, women ‘s history and today’s news by playing the current events game show complete with buzzers, light and prizes. Express yourself, design a T-shirt, button, bandana or bumper sticker celebrating your right of free expression. Learn about the role of women in news history through stories, artifacts, photos and video. Participants learn the five freedoms of the First Amendment and how women suffrage activists exercised those rights. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) invite you to experience science up close and personal. Experts in various fields will demonstrate how exciting science can be. Learn about metals and alloys and rainbows and mirages. Hands-on sessions will enable you to watch electric currents, analyze the structure of crystals, find out how to see invisible light, and watch how bananas, hotdogs, and metals behave at temperatures minus 195 degrees Celsius. July 19-20	Become a Sailor in Two Days! 9 am - 4 pm, Annapolis Sailing School, 7001 Bembe Beach Road, Annapolis 21403 Grades 9 - 12 Cost is $150 Register by July 12 The Annapolis Sailing School has tailored a sailing course just for Girl Scout Seniors, Ambassadors, and their FRIENDS! The course is over two days and is a perfect blend of “intensive instruction and relaxed fun on the water”.

July 28	Aberdeen IronBirds SHARE Fundraiser 7:05 pm, Ripken Stadium, Aberdeen, MD All ages and families Cost is $15 per person. Please note: a ticket to this game is included if you attend the June 2 Aberdeen IronBirds Campout. Get a free IronBirds baseball cap for ever ticket sold and a special patch for every Girl Scout. August 6 - 10	American Girl Scout Camp 8:30 am - 4:15 pm Catonsville United Methodist Church, 6 Melvin Ave. Catonsville, MD 21228 Girl Scout Daisies - Juniors and friends Cost is $140 for the week (includes at least one patch/badge per day, plus snacks) Register by July 1, 2012 Celebrate being an ‘American Girl’ and explore history with your favorite dolls at this 5 day camp. Earn patches and badges that relate to 5 different American Girl dolls each day. An overnight is available for Juniors only on Thursday, August 9. The overnight is an additional $30. August 13 - 17	Learn to Row Camp 9 am - 12 pm, Camp Woodlands 8th - 12 graders Cost is $175 Register by June 10, 2012 Learn the sport of rowing with coaches and members of Annapolis Junior Rowing Association. Spend time on the water and on land learning boat handling and rowing technique, general conditioning on the ergometer (rowing machine), and land-based workouts. End the week with a short race to test your rowing skill!
